“나는 누구이며, 우리는 무엇인가?” 이 질문은 내 작업의 출발점이다.

나의 예술은 삶을 탐구하는 태도이며, 혼돈스러운 지금의 현실에서 인간 내면에 축적된 시간과 관계의 구조를 탐색한다.
사람, 내면, 관계, 순환, 동행을 키워드로, 인간을 매개로 현대인의 내면을 하나의 층위적 구조로 바라본다.
내가 그리는 얼굴은 초상이 아니라, 삶의 압력과 경험이 침전된 ‘내면의 지층’이다.

도자기의 상감기법을 회화적 방식으로 전환해 쌓고 파내는 축적, 경화, 절개, 충전의 과정을 통해
화면을 시간이 응축된 물질의 단면으로 구성한다.

최근에는 현대인의 내면을 개인의 기억과 한국적 시간성이 교차하는 구조로 해석하여 토우, 상형토기 등
전통적 소재를 모티브로 작업에 몰두하고 있다.
우리가 서 있는 현재가 어떤 과거의 층 위에 놓여 있는지 조용히 되묻고, 그 안에 숨겨진 삶의 빛을 다시 응시하고자 한다.

예술은 삶과 다르지 않다는 작가적 소신이 있으며, 나의 작업이 자신의 내면과 잠잠히 독대하여,
그 안에 내재된 진정한 나를 찾아가는 조용한 여정이 되길 바란다.

Inner Gathering

“Who am I, and what are we?” This question is the starting point of my work.
My art is a way of exploring life. Amid the complexities and uncertainties of the present, I investigate the structures of time and relationships accumulated within the human interior. Using people, the inner self, relationships, circulation, and companionship as key concepts, I view the inner world of contemporary human beings as a layered structure, mediated through the human figure. The faces I depict are not portraits, but rather “strata of the inner self,” in which the pressures and experiences of life have settled over time.
Transforming the inlay technique of traditional Korean ceramics into a painterly process, I build up, harden, cut into, and fill the surface, constructing the canvas as a cross-section of matter in which time has become condensed.
More recently, I have been exploring the inner world of contemporary people as a structure in which personal memory intersects with Korean notions of time and history, drawing inspiration from traditional forms such as clay figurines (TOU) and figurative pottery. I quietly ask what layers of the past lie beneath the present in which we stand, and seek to turn my gaze once again toward the light of life hidden within them.
I hold the conviction that art is no different from life itself. I hope my work may become a quiet journey in which one encounters one’s own inner self in stillness, and searches for the authentic self that resides within.
